Material Storage - add a Total Value display
(again sorry if this has been suggested before, but searching this forum simply doesnt work for me, "material storage" brought up zero results :s and i didnt see it listed in the index)
A simple idea, in your Vault box under the material tab, there is an empty space at the bottom of the 3rd column - it would be quite nice if your total value of all your currently stored materials displayed there.
Or for the total to display when you mouse over the tab header.
If this was workable, then additionally, the concept could be added for each tab..ie if you have 4 tabs plus a 5th for materials.. you could at a glance know your 'worth' in storage. The materials net worth display would be the bee's knees though!
Handy if you need to know what you can afford or if you are saving up for something, rather than have to mouse over each item and add up all the values etc
Cheers

Not sure if this really has an overall value to the game, but I agree that it would be nice to know how much you own in storage outside of gold.
However:
1. In relation to materials, the value in your storage will change based on the value of the materials price at the merchants, right? Meaning that number will be changing quite a bit.

I like it, but I don't see it happening.

This would basically tell you, your entire material wealth?
Im not against the idea, it would be nice. I worry how they would keep track of the material prices in real time? would they feed from the same pricing system as the merchants?
I also worry it would incourage this idea of using material as alternative wealth, such as ectos?
What if you had the max amount of every material in your vault? would the system be able to handle that total amount, because it would be within the 100s if not more.
It just seems another way to bypass the cap at 100k!

*chuckles* cheers for your thoughts guys
Jaythen & FreakoutFish- yep i guess it would change regularly, updating from the merchant system , but then again so does the value for all the individual materials. I am guessing that the actual coding wouldnt be too bad because it would just be 1 more number that would be changing along with all the others.
Good point about the total figure being too large for the system to handle maybe... :S i hadnt thought of that...
I certainly hadnt thought of it as a way to bypass the 100k cap lol...(see below :P)
To those asking why - well for some of us we dont have that many actual gold pieces or high value items believe it or not! In which case if and when we do happen to see something we would like to buy, the great likelihood is that we would need to cash in what we have in storage. This would be helpful then, at a glance allowing me to know if i can actually afford it (by selling maybe 10 stacks of what i have)
So say i want to buy something that is 6,000 gold. I have 2,000 gold pieces, i need to know that i have at least 4,000 worth of gold in my material storage..
We aren't all millionaires or braggers... in actual fact this would be a tool more useful for the less wealthy who have need to sell materials in order to actually get enough gold.
But yep, bottom line... as Fish said..i can see that it could have a problem with bypassing the cap... then again.. maybe it would be easy enough to have to max at that or lower.. just a conditional argument in the code.. IF 100k OR > = 100k because the purpose is its use in showing value in the smaller numbers in the majority anyway.
edit - Fish - re your post below, - yep,you are most likely right. I dont know how the code would work. If it would place stress on the servers then it certainly wouldnt be worth it at all, as it is purely an 'icing' request

If you concider that we have a set number of NPCs in the game, which have to display constantly changing, live data (i.e the price of materials). The game is able to handle that limited number of NPCs who display that information. The game is engineered to do so (I assume).
Now consider how much more work the sytem has to handle if its doing that same thing for 1000s of players, and their 1000s of vaults!
It would increase the amount of data needing to be calculated and updated live, by the 100s if not 1000s. It would put alot of demand on the servers!
Live data is a very demanding thing!
